Inside this issue...

Dear [Name],

There are many ingredients that make up a vacation of a lifetime: the right company, the right location, good weather and great food all play their role. None of those elements though improves when shared with thousands of travelers visiting the same site at the same time.

With the most popular tourist destinations packed to the gills every vacation season and even smaller locations rapidly filling with visitors, it’s harder than ever to book a trip that promises peace, quiet and solitude as well as beaches, cocktails and experiences.

In this edition of our newsletter we explain how to get away from the crowds and enjoy a trip into the calm beyond.

And when you reach your destination, what could be better than being told you’ve received a free upgrade to a luxury suite? Hotel upgrades are much more common than airline bonuses and far easier to win. We’ll give you some tips to help make sure that your next hotel stay comes with some extra special benefits.

At [Your Company Name], we’re experts at both finding out-of-the-way vacation spots and bargains that will take your breath away. Ask us how we can help you get more from your next trip by calling us at [Your Phone Number].

GETTING AWAY FROM THE CROWDS

Vacations are meant to be a chance to get it away from it all, an opportunity to leave behind work, bills and worries, to be alone with your partner or your family in a place where you can focus on fun, freedom and each other.

And yet, how many times have you booked

into your beach vacation only to find the sand more crowded than your local mall? Or visited a theme park and found lines longer than the jam on the freeway? Or stayed at a hotel at which you had to fight the masses to reach the breakfast buffet?

But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to book a top vacation and still enjoy the pleasure of solitude. Here are three tips to help you make the most of your trip while avoiding the masses:

Check The Map For Offbeat Bargains
It might be nice to have a balcony overlooking St. Mark’s Square or a hotel room a stone’s throw from the beach but look a little further down the road and you might be able to find a place to stay that will let you see the sights you want without always being a face in the crowd. A hotel room in London’s Golders Green for example, will let you mix with the locals without paying the price of a central London bed, while the tube can whip you around the tourist sites during the day. Skopelos might not be one of the most well-known Greek islands, but its green forests and blue waters can give you everything you expect from a Mediterranean vacation while leaving the throngs of Athens behind. You might need a short commute to the central attractions but the solitude makes it all worthwhile.

Go Off Season... You’ll Skip The Crowds And Charm The Locals Most people think of the off season as a grand time to find to cheap flights and cheaper hotel rooms. But it’s also the best period to visit the top tourist spots... when the tourists aren’t there. Paris for example, empties of Parisians during the long August break, leaving you with no one but camera -snapping visitors; the Grand Canyon takes on a whole new identity when its trails are shrouded in snow and Singapore at Christmas is filled with surprises that you can only find in this shopping city. And best of all, when you visit a town during its down time, you can expect extra attention from locals who appreciate your yearround business. That means long, interesting chats, inside information about hidden sights and a whole new depth to your vacation.

Hit The Road
If you don’t want to stay on the periphery and pop in to the center to see the sights, then you can plan your vacation the other way around: stay in the center and escape the masses by renting a car and driving into the calm. While your fellow visitors are lining up to see more magi in Florence for example, you could be sipping Chianti in Alto Mugello!

Just because you want to see the best sites in the world or find the most golden beaches doesn’t mean you have to share your vacation with everyone else. Give us a call at [insert number] and we’ll happy to help you plan a trip that will give you the best of all worlds while leaving the world behind.

HOW TO ENJOY SUITE DREAMS FOR SWEET PRICES

It’s every traveler’s secret wish. You walk up to the check-in desk at the airport and are told by the smiling assistant that you’ve been given a free upgrade to the first class cabin. Instead of sitting with your knees beneath your chin for twelve hours, you’ll be snoozing happily on a flat bed and eating fine meals off real plates.

Flight upgrades do happen of course, but they’re not as common as >hotel upgrades. And swapping a single room or a regular double for a suite with twice the space and all the trimmings often requires much less persuasion and gives you the sort of reward that lasts for days -- and nights.

The easiest way to land a free suite is simply to ask. If the room is empty, it makes little difference to the hotel if there’s a guest in the single by the stairs or the suite at the end of the hall.

The end of the day usually gives the best results. There’s no chance then that the hotel is going to get a walk-in who wants a suite and if you’ve just come off a long-haul flight looking tired and frazzled, the duty manager will understand that he’s going to get much greater appreciation for his gesture.

Being a loyal customer though will always move you to the front of the line. Make sure you belong to any reward program that the hotel might have and make it clear that this isn’t the first time that you’ve visited this hotel. Not all hotels keep track of their customers though so putting down your bag and saying “It’s good to be back” lets the desk clerk know that you’re an old hand and part of their club.

When you’re giving the hotel your custom on a regular basis, it will be much more likely to give you the benefits.

The decision to hand out a suite is likely to be made by the duty manager so it’s worth knowing who he or she is -- and keeping in touch. If the room you’ve received is anything but perfect sure to let the duty manager know -- if the only way to give you what you’ve paid for is to give you more than you paid for, the manager should do it -- but tell them too what pleased you. Staff prefer to receive praise than complaints and if they’re always pleased to see you, they’ll also be pleased to help you.

That contact can be kept when you’re away too. After you leave the hotel, write a letter (and hand-written always looks better on the office wall than a printed email) thanking the hotel for its care. And write too before your next visit, making sure to note any special occasions like birthdays or anniversaries that you might be
celebrating during the stay.

And finally, while it’s not impossible to go from the worst room in the hotel to the best, you’re much more likely to go up just one level. So while you can ask if there are any suites available when you’re staying in the worst room, you have a better chance when you’re staying in the class below the suite.
